The other part of the building that was heavily damaged was the south end, where a second set of holes were opened in the roof. All four of the classrooms and the bathroom were exposed. There was standing water on the floor and extensive water damage to all rooms. The combination of driving rain, blown by tornado-strength winds, along with heavy leakage from the damaged roof in general meant that even the parts of the room farthest from the holes received a good soaking.
Water damage by the preschool hallway bathroom.
By the time I took this shot, it was around 4 pm and teachers and volunteers had already cleared quite a bit from the room. I took this shot to note that one blessing here is that in the little ones' rooms -- unlike the library -- many of the learning materials are plastic. This meant that many items could be hosed down or, in the case of some of the smaller plastic toys, soaked in bleach water and dried off.
Stuff being salvaged from the preschool rooms.
Office equipment piled up on the floor - I believe from the totally flooded billing office.
Tara Rondeau's office was next to the library and computer lab, so unfortunately her office was totally drenched. I didn't see it before everything was cleared out.
